Afaque Riaz Ahmed is founder and chairperson of The Karachi Institute of Technology and Entrepreneurship. In September 2003, he founded Fonebooth Networks, Inc, a telecommunications company based in Silicon Valley. The philosophy and business model for this venture eventually became the basis for a similar enterprise, the Breezecom Group of Companies, a company based in Cyberjaya, Malaysia with a subsidiary in Karachi, Pakistan. In 2011, Afaque’s passion for science and education drove him to establish the Robotics Labs, an interactive platform designed to inculcate a love for science in young Pakistanis. This became the founding philosophy of Afaque’s first not-for-profit endeavour, KITE. Afaque holds an MBA from McGill University, Montreal, Canada and a Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Texas at Austin, U.S.A.
Sarwat Afaque graduated with high honors from the University of California at Berkeley in 2006 with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration. Moving back from USA to Pakistan, she developed the ‘from the outside in’ view of her country. An ardent supporter of international level, good quality, modern education, she believes that this is the only way forward for the youth of Pakistan. The people of Pakistan can no longer keep comparing foreign systems to local ones but indeed, strive to create and adopt contextualized effective systems after having learned from foreign ones. She is ambitious in bringing innovation and international curriculum elements to university level courses and a shift towards practical approach in all university education.
